I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the parishioners of Holy Name of Jesus for their generous donations to the Missionaries of the Poor in Kingston, Jamaica.
I recently spent six days in Kingston with a group of Catholics from throughout the Archdiocese of New York, dedicating our time to service—feeding, clothing, bathing, doing laundry, providing simple medical care, and even cutting hair. We did whatever was needed, just as the brothers and sisters of the Missionaries of the Poor do every single day.
The people we served in Kingston are filled with joy despite facing poverty, mental, and physical hardships. Their strength and gratitude are truly inspiring.
Thanks to your generous cash donations, we were able to purchase a much-needed commercial ice maker to serve the roughly 600 residents of the Missionaries of the Poor. This addition was deeply appreciated and will make a lasting difference.
Every item donated was received with gratitude by the brothers, sisters, and residents. Your kindness and generosity truly made an impact.
The Missionaries of the Poor have a beautiful saying: “The call to serve the poor is an invitation to happiness.” My trip each year is a powerful reminder of this truth, and I am blessed to witness the joy that comes from serving others..
